History

Groundworks owner and operator Tim McGregor has a long established affiliation and history with the Contracting industry in Queenstown and surrounding areas.

In 1956 a road contracting business was born, owned and operated by Darrell McGregor, with the first major success being the construction of the initial section of the Queenstown to Glenorchy Road.

Darrell McGregor Contracting Ltd continued on, to construct approaches to the Rees River Bridge, install roading from Kinloch to Greenstone, and carry out large scale earth and road works on most of the major routes accessing the larger Wakatipu area. Progressively, the Company moved into general excavation of private sites, rock wall construction and bulk haulage with the onset of a series of building booms in the area spanning some 50 years.

The experience and of knowledge of Earthmoving in the Queenstown area, and working successfully within it’s extreme conditions has been relayed to the next generation resulting in the establishment of our specialised Earthmoving Company, Groundworks.

In an environment of harsh climate, difficult terrain and challenging architecture, we continue to grow our reputation as a leading Earthmoving Company.
